My journey so far...

Hello all

We have finally reached the end of the semester and the last blog post for this module. I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on my enriching journey through this module.

I have to admit that initially I was not too keen about this module as I thought it was going to be uninteresting. However, CG1413 proved me wrong as it turned out to be rather engaging and I genuinely gained interest in it as the module unfolded. Firstly, I found the idea of blogging very effective as it not only provides us a good avenue to reflect on various activities but also helps us develop our written communication skills and most importantly adds some fun to the learning process as blogging is generally perceived as a recreational activity by teenagers.

I also found the concept of video recording our meeting and oral presentations and later reviewing them highly interesting and effective. It was the first time I got the oppotunity to watch my own presentation and be my own audience. I would have to agree that the purpose of this activity was very well met as I learnt a lot after watching the recordings and managed to work on several weaknesses of mine and consequentially, managed to deliver better presentations. Previously I was not aware that non-verbal communication was so important that it contributed to an astonishing eighty percent of a person’s delivery of an idea. Through this course I learnt that and hence developed on my non-verbal cues such as body gestures and eye contact to enhance my presentation skills.

"Where the best and the brightest come together, the possibilities are endless"

Moreover, I also learnt countless invaluable lessons while working in a team for projects, which formed the core of this module as well as CG1102 which is a co-requisite of this module. Both the projects required us to apply teamwork and communication skills proficiently throughout the duration of the project. As a result I got more comfortable with essential teamwork skills like adapting to new ideas from teammates, voicing out any disapproval in a polite manner, keeping to deadlines, motivating each other in times of distress and so on.
All in all, I am genuinely thankful for having taken up this module as it has undoubtedly made me a better speaker and listener, and more importantly has found me some very valuable friends as well. I would like to end my post by shouting out a big Thank You to my wonderful tutor Ms Happy Goh, my encouraging classmates and also special thanks to my teammates in particular for having worked together fantastically well for each project.

Warmest Regards
Iswarya

  1. Hi ish
Your last blog post was interesting, engaging, and emotions-provoking. In addition, you highlighted a few points that I left out in my post. I acceded that we were able to acquire valuable skills that can help us in the future. Furthermore, I definitely agree to your statement that the use of blogs and projects as the focus of this module elevate the interests of students towards CG1413. Moreover, I believed that you benefited greatly from this module because in the post and your performance in class, I could see the improvement in both your writing and presentation skills.

However, I would like to mention a minor flaw in your last post. In this post, the language and style of writing that you had chosen to use was informal, and personally I thought that it would be better if you maintain the formal approach of writing that you had usually adopted to standardize the posts that were uploaded.

In conclusion, it was nice knowing you and all the best for your future endeavors.

Good luck for your final exams. (pspice =) )

  2. Hi Ish,
You have written a good evaluation of the cg1413 course and apply it to your own experiences. The learning activities are definitely unique as you have mentioned and I have not experiences any of these activities before.

Since I have not worked with you on either one of the projects that require teamwork (CG1413, CG1102, CG1108), hence I am not able to comment on your improvement throughout this semester. I hope that you will be able to constantly recall and practice these communication and teamwork skills as these will benefit greatly in other modules and especially when you graduate and work in the corporate world.

  3. Hi Ish,
I found your post very impressive and reflective. You clearly highlighted your strengths and weaknesses, and also stated the areas that you put in effort to improve on and the difference could be undoubtedly seen. Also, you honestly stated your views and opinions and the new things that you learnt from this module. I am glad that you have kept in mind all the key points which help us to become an improved and also a more confident person in the nearing future. I could also see the appliance of the 7C’s of writing in your post, which made your post clear-cut and also the message, seemed to be conveyed well. The difference between your first presentation and the second one could be evidently seen. You seemed more relaxed and comfortable during your second presentation and I noticed that presented your speech confidently with ease, without expressing any form of nervousness. This was indeed a very good improvement and it shows that this module did benefit you in many ways.
There is one thing that I wish to point out to you. I am sure that your opinion about teamwork should have changed over the semester when compared to the start of the module. So perhaps you could have mentioned more on what teamwork means to you now, since you have worked with different people from different teams. Other than that, it was an enjoyable and captivating read.
Looking forward to working with you! All the best for your future! :)
    Cheers,
    Manjula
